Our Distillery Garden

At the Secret Garden Distillery, we grow over 600 different varieties of herbs and plants that we are hugely passionate about. They are all grown and nurtured by us. In 2023 we stopped selling nursery plants to concentrate on the Garden becoming fully functional for the Distillery business. However we wanted the Garden to continue to attract visitors to explore the planting and we wanted to introduce some educational elements for our Tours.

First we created a Juniper Woodland from the juniper beds that had been planted. Juniper is a native to the Scottish woodland and we planted typical Scottish plants as firs and heathers amongst our juniper so as it matures, visitors will be able to see the Juniper growing in a more natural environment.

Next we finished the work on our famous Apothecary Rose Garden. From above it resembles a flower and is laid out in a Golden Spiral. A Golden Spiral is a geometric representation of a Fibonacci sequence which preserves its curves at all shapes and is very common in nature. Not only are the petals the source botanical in our ultra-premium Rose gin redolent of turkish delight and delicate floral aroma but the garden itself with its seating is a calming meditative space for our guests.

Our Teaching Polytunnel in the Gin Garden shows off the botanicals we use in the gins in a naturalistic setting.

Lastly our Glasshouse contains teaching beds demonstrating the botanicals we use for our Tours and houses our more delicate plants: Lemon Verbena, coriander, blossom tress that form the basis of our Summer Gin and of course the grapes that are harvested annually and form the basis for our award-winning ultra premium Pinot Noir gin - the perfect gin for a wine lover and for our aperitif range our sweet Vermouth Rosso and our dry Vermouth Bianco.
