Rob Roy: A Scottish hero immortalised in a cocktail

Rob Roy: A Scottish hero immortalised in a cocktail

Another easy whisky cocktail to make at home is the Rob Roy: celebrating the famed Scottish hero Rob Roy. Remarkably similar to the Manhattan, this uses  Secret Garden dry vermouth Bianco rather than the sweet Rosso.

Ingredients:

Once you've got your ingredients;

  1. Stir over ice, strain
  2. Coupe Glass
  3. Garnish: a brandied maraschino cherry (or an orange twist if you prefer)

Again, like the Manhattan, history places the invention of this cocktail in New York in the mid 1890's by a bartender at the Waldorf-Astoria in honour of the opening of Rob-Roy - an operetta loosely based on the life of Rob Roy.
